TORRINGTON (USDA) - Riverton Livestock sold 2,000 cattle Tuesday. Compared to last week slaughter cows sold steady to $4 higher, bulls steady, instances $3-$8 higher on high yielding. Breaker slaughter cows brought $43-$51.25, boning $42-$50.50, lean $35.75-$42.75; slaughter bulls ranged from $52.50-$58.50 with high dressing $50-$65.50. Complete report in the Thursday column.
Slaughter cattle trading mostly inactive in all feeding regions Tuesday on light demand. Few sales reported with the live trade at $85-$87, and dressed $137. Week to date total is 1,650 head through midafternoon Tuesday.
Boxed beef cut-out values were lower on light to moderate demand and moderate to heavy offerings. Choice carcasses weighing 600-900 lbs. were down $.99 at $150.74 and Select 600-900 lbs. down $1.18 at $139.02 based on 278 loads.
Cattle slaughter under federal inspection Tuesday was estimated at 122,000
head compared to 119,000 a week ago and 124,000 a year ago. FIS through Tuesday
was estimated at 238,000 head compared to 229,000 a week ago and 242,000 a year
ago.
Barrow and gilt prices at the terminal markets Tuesday were steady to $1 higher. Prices ranged from $41.50-$45. Hog slaughter under federal inspection on Tuesday was estimated at 407,000 head compared to 398,000 a week ago and 403,000 a year ago. FIS through Tuesday was estimated at 804,000 head compared to 781,000 a week ago and 805,000 a year ago.
FIS Tuesday for slaughter lambs was estimated at 11,000 head compared to 10,000 a week ago and 10,000 a year ago. FIS through Tuesday was estimated at 21,000 head compared to 19,000 a week ago and 21,000 a year ago.
