TORRINGTON (USDA) - Torrington Livestock sold 650 cattle Friday. Compared to last Friday, slaughter cows sold steady to $1 higher, slaughter bulls and feeder cows steady. Breaker slaughter cows brought $48.25-$53.25, boning $46.50-$54, lean $42.25-$45.50; slaughter bulls ranged from $57-$63.50; young feeder cows brought $62-$69, middle-aged brought $54-$56, aged feeder cows $48-$54; feeder steers 730 lbs $114.25; feeder heifers 810 lbs. $104.75, 960-995 lbs. $99.75-$101.75; young bred cows brought $860.
According to the National Slaughter Cattle Review for Monday, July 31, 2006, trade was mostly inactive in all the major feeding regions. Few sales reported at $79.50 live and $127 dressed. Last week live sales traded at $79-$80.50, and dressed $126-$127. Boxed beef cut-out values were steady to firm on light to moderate demand and offerings Monday. Choice 600-900 lbs. up $1.11 at $140.33, and select 600-900 lbs. up $.40 at $123.33 based on 266 total loads. Cattle slaughter under federal inspection Monday was estimated at 114,000 head compared to 125,000 a week ago and 114,000 a year ago. The slaughter cows at South St. Paul, Minn., Monday sold steady. Premium whites $53-$58, breakers $50-$55, boners $47-$52, lean $43-$49.
At the Midwestern terminal markets Monday barrow and gilt prices trended $1-$1.50 higher. Prices ranged from $44-$46.50. Hog slaughter under federal inspection is estimated at 386,000 head compared to 384,000 a week ago and 332,000 a year ago.
Slaughter lambs in Sioux Falls, S.D., sold steady compared to a week ago Monday. Choice wooled slaughter lambs 120-150 lbs. $94-$100.50, shorn 120-140 lbs. $94.75-$99.50; feeder lambs sold steady with lambs 43-59 lbs. $121.00-$130.00, 60-64 lbs. $111.00-120.00, 80-109 lbs. $93.00-$109.00. In South St. Paul the slaughter and feeder lambs sold steady Monday. Wooled new crop slaughter lambs 110-140 lbs. $88-$94. Feeder lambs weighing 50-70 lbs. at $95-$105, 70-90 lbs. $85-$95. Sheep and lamb slaughter Monday estimated at 11,000 head, compared to 11,000 a week ago, and 9,000 a year ago.
