LONDON (AP) - The U.S. dollar was down against other major currencies in late European trading Monday. Gold prices were lower.
The euro was quoted at $1.2755, up from $1.2753 late Friday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.2760.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Friday, included 114.35 Japanese yen, down from 114.70; 1.2308 Swiss francs, down from 1.2329; and 1.1295 Canadian dollars, down from 1.1311.
The British pound was quoted at $1.8662, up from $1.8634.
In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 114.37 yen and 1.2311 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.8675.
Gold in London closed at $632.58 per troy ounce, down from $636.05 on Friday.
In Zurich, the gold closed at $631.78 per troy ounce, down from $635.35 on Friday.
Gold closed at $636.50 in Hong Kong, up $4.50 an ounce from Friday's close of $632.00.
Silver closed in London at $11.27 per troy ounce, down from $11.32 on Friday.
