TORRINGTON - Torrington Livestock Commission Co. sold 3,000 cattle Friday. Compared to last week, slaughter cows, bulls and feeder cows sold $2-$3 lower, feeder steers and heifers steady to $3 higher. Breaker

According to the National Slaughter Cattle Review for Friday, slaughter cattle trading was slow on light demand throughout the Midwest. Few sales Friday were at $82-$83 live and $130-$132 dressed. Bulk of the sales this week were $2-$3 lower than the previous week ranging from $82-$83 and dressed $131-$132 in light cleanup trade with 2,100 head reported. Week to date stands at 208,500 head through 2 p.m. Friday.

Boxed beef cut-out values were weak to lower on moderate demand and moderate to heavy offerings. Choice 600-750 lbs. down $.36 at $137.98, 750-900 lbs. down $.71 at $135.16 and Select 600-750 lbs.

down $1.40 at $131.62 and 750-900 lbs. down $1.69 at $130.67, based on 151 Choice loads, 127 loads of Select, and 116 loads of Trimmings and Grinds.

Cattle slaughter under federal inspection through Saturday was estimated at 625,000 head this week, compared to 634,000 a week ago and 720,000 a year ago.

The slaughter cows at South St. Paul Thursday sold steady to weak on a light test. Premium whites brought $63-$65, Breakers $60-$63, Boners $56-$60, Lean $53-$56.

Barrow and gilt prices were steady to $1 lower at the Midwestern terminal markets Friday selling at $55-$56. Hog slaughter under FIS through Saturday was estimated at 1,865,000 head, compared to 1,896,000 a week ago and 1,812,000 a year ago.

South St. Paul slaughter lambs sold steady Friday. Choice wooled 120-140 lbs. $88-$90, 110-120 lbs. $86-$88. Feeder lambs remained steady with the 60-80 lb. lambs at $95-$100 and 80-100 lbs. $90-$95. FIS through Saturday was estimated at 49,000 head, compared to 51,000 a week ago and 55,000 a year ago.
