Whether you enjoy burgers or tacos, pizza or steak, you can "Eat Out to End Hunger," on Tuesday, as 29 restaurants in 14 communities give 10 percent of the day's total sales to the Casper-based Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies.
The number of restaurants and communities participating in this year's event both doubled from last year, according to WFBR executive director Diane DeLozier.
"We really want this to work," DeLozier said. "If we had one restaurant participating in every Wyoming town, then every citizen of Wyoming would have a chance to participate, and wouldn't that be wonderful?"
All money raised in Wyoming stays in Wyoming, just as all contributions of food stay in Wyoming.
The WFBR 18-wheeler distributes food monthly from the Mills warehouse to nonprofit organizations in each of the state's 23 counties. Recipients range from traditional soup kitchens and shelters to senior centers, crisis centers and after-school programs for children.
Although the WFBR distributed 2.5 million pounds of food last year in Wyoming, DeLozier says the need "is probably 10 times greater than that."
Restaurants will contribute from sales during all hours of normal operation on Tuesday. They include:
