LONDON (AP) - The U.S. dollar rose against other major currencies in European trading Friday. Gold prices fell.
The euro traded at $1.2718, down from $1.2829 late Thursday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.2723.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Thursday, included 111.95 Japanese yen, up from 110.89; 1.2215 Swiss francs, up from 1.2081; and 1.1254 Canadian dollars, up from 1.1206.
The British pound traded at $1.8723, down from $1.8908.
In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 111.82 yen and 1.2204 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.8737.
Gold traded at $653.60 in London, down from $690.70 on Thursday.
In Zurich, the metal reached $653.50, down from $690.20.
In Hong Kong, gold fell $4.20 to close at $683.10.
Silver traded in London at $12.70, down from $12.90.
