TORRINGTON (USDA) - Torrington Livestock sold 2,000 cattle Friday. Compared to last week, slaughter cows sold steady, slaughter bulls steady to $1 higher, and feeder cows sold steady to $1 higher. Breaker slaughter cows brought $46.75-$49.75, Boning $44-$48.25 and Lean $39-$43.50; slaughter bulls brought $57.25-$63; young feeder cows brought $64-$71 with few $73-$79, middle-aged $53.50-$60, aged $46-$53.50.
Centennial Livestock Auction in Fort Collins, Colo., sold 3,355 feeder cattle Thursday. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold $2-$3 higher. Billings, Mont., Livestock offered 1,665 head of cattle Thursday. Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls sold $2 higher and feeder cattle steady to $2 higher on a light test. Breaker slaughter cows brought $44-$47.25, Boning $43-$46.50, Lean $42-$42.50; slaughter bulls brought $57.50-$60.75; feeder heiferettes brought $90-$92.50, young $61-$72.50 and middle-aged feeder cows ranged from $54.75-$60, aged $43-$52.25; feeder steers 325-400 lbs. $163-$177, 425 lbs. $158, 450-500 lbs. $135.50-$147.50, 500-550 lbs. $124-$135, 565 lbs. $119.50, 600-625 lbs. $119-$121.50, 715 lbs. $109; feeder heifers 300-380 lbs. $147-$156, 405 lbs. $141, 450-500 lbs. $129-$135, 500-550 lbs. $118-$128, 600-650 lbs. $108.50-$112, 840 lbs. $110, 1,040-1,080 lbs. $96.50-$99.50; 3- to 4-year-old bred cows brought $975-$1,050, solid mouth and aged $685-$875; 3- to 4-year-old cows with calves ranged from $1,200-$1,300.
Slaughter cattle trading slow in all areas Friday, not enough sales to fully establish a market, a few cleanup sales sold mostly steady. Live sales reported at $85-$89 and dressed $136-$140. The last established market was on Thursday, with live sales at $87-$88 and dressed $136-$139.
Boxed beef cut-out values were lower on Choice and steady on Select under light to moderate demand and offerings. Choice 600-900 lbs. down $1.10 at $144.80, and Select 600-900 lbs. up $.16 at $131.31 based on 297 total loads.
Cattle slaughter under federal inspection through Saturday was estimated at 635,000 head this week, compared to 621,000 a week ago and 644,000 a year ago.
Barrow and gilt trended $.50 higher at the South St. Paul and at Sioux Falls barrow and gilts trended $.50 lower Friday. Prices at $42. Hog slaughter under FIS through Saturday was estimated at 2,158,000 head, compared to 2,192,000 a week ago and 2,070,000 a year ago.
South St. Paul slaughter and feeder lambs sold steady in a light test Friday. Choice slaughter lambs 120-140 lbs. sold at $90-$94. Feeder lambs 60-80 lbs. $115-$135, 80-100 lbs. $95-$115. FIS through Saturday was estimated at 50,000 head, compared to 54,000 a week ago and 56,000 a year ago.
