Compared to two weeks ago feeder steers and heifers under 600 lbs. sold $3-$6 higher with most advance on weights under 450 lbs., weights over 600 lbs. sold steady to $3 higher. Demand good. Large buyer attendance. Overall quality very good with cattle in average to thin flesh condition. Riverton Livestock Auction estimating 2,700 cattle Tuesday. Compared to last week slaughter cow sold steady to $2 higher, bulls steady. Breaker slaughter cows sold from $47.50-$51.50 with high dressing $53-$56, Boning $47.50-$50 with high dressing $50.50-$54, and Lean $40-$44; slaughter bulls brought $58.50-$60 with high yielding $61-$63.50; feeder steers 325-375 lbs. $157-$164, 400-480 lbs. $140-$149.25, 500-580 lbs. $125.50-$135; feeder heifers 265 lbs. $150, 335-380 lbs. $141.50-$151, 400-415 lbs. $134-$141, 465-485 lbs. $123.50-$130.50, 525-550 lbs. $120-$125, 615 lbs. $126.25. Slaughter cattle trading was inactive in all major feeding areas Tuesday. Few sales reported at $90. Last week the live sales traded at $90-$92 and dressed at $140 to mostly $142.
Boxed beef cut-out values were sharply higher on light demand and offerings. Choice 600-900 lbs. up $1.77 at $147.01 and Select 600-900 lbs. up $2.90 at $138.29 based on 312 loads.
Cattle slaughter under federal inspection Tuesday was estimated at 128,000 head compared to 129,000 a week ago and 125,000 a year ago. FIS through Tuesday was estimated at 131,000 head compared to 256,000 a week ago and 129,000 a year ago.
The slaughter cows at South St. Paul, Minn., Tuesday sold steady. Premium White cows brought $58-$61.50, Breakers ranged from $54-$59, Boners $51-$55, and Lean $47-$52.
Barrow and gilt prices at the terminal markets Tuesday were steady. Prices ranged from $44-$46. Hog slaughter under federal inspection on Tuesday was estimated at 416,000 head compared to 406,000 a week ago and 402,000 a year ago. FIS through Tuesday was estimated at 419,000 head compared to 804,000 a week ago and 405,000 a year ago.
South St. Paul slaughter lambs sold $1-$2 higher, feeder lambs steady. Choice new crop wooled 110-140 lbs. brought $89-$93, few shorn 130-140 lbs. $95. New crop feeder lambs weighing 50-70 lbs. brought $95-$105, 70-90 lbs. $85-$95. FIS Tuesday was estimated at 12,000 head compared to 10,000 a week ago and 11,000 a year ago. FIS through Tuesday was estimated at 13,000 head compared to 20,000 a week ago and 12,000 a year ago.
