A showing of movie “Coming to Light – the Edward Curtis Story” coincides with the community exhibit, "Eye of a Nation: A Celebration of Heritage." The film tells the story of the photographer who set out in 1900 to document traditional Indian life and became the most famous photographer of his time.
The film "presents a complex, dedicated, flawed life, and explores many of the ironies inherent in Curtis's story, the often controversial nature of his romantic images, and the value of the photographs to Indian people and to all Americans today," according to an announcement about the event.
The screening coincides with the Community Fine Arts Center's exhibit of Curtis’ work "The North American Indian" and the "Eye of the Beholder" exhibition at the Rock Springs Historical Museum on how the camera has evolved.
