Constant readers will know by now that I love to eat them but they are not my specialty.

I don’t even actually make frosted cutout sugar cookies at Christmas time, which perhaps makes me the worst mother/friend/neighbor on the planet.

I do make a lot of stuff every Christmas, but those have never been among my lengthy repertoire. And it’s probably because the woman who taught me to cook and the best cook I know, Peggy Jane the Mom, never made them either.

So here are three recipes that will get you raves — one white, one chocolate — and one emergency roll to keep in the freezer at all times.

Who doesn’t love shortbread? Pretty much butter in solid form, with some sugar and flour added in to keep it altogether. And chocolate and peppermint are the perfect Christmas combination.

Cookies are the perfect food for all times of the day and night. No house should be without them. Be certain that yours is not.
