Calle Sur brings Latin American musical variety
Karin Stein and Ed East as Calle Sur take audiences on a musical journey through many Latin American cultures. Ed’s hometown is Panama City, while Karin grew up on a rice and cattle farm in the eastern plains of Colombia.
“His veins were filled with the fusion of world beats converging in a big city. Her soul harbored haunting cowboy tunes from her traditional Llanero culture, a fascinating people whose music remains one of Latin America’s best kept secrets,” according to the duo’s bio. They perform around the world, have composed three documentary scores and Karin’s compositions have been in two feature films. Their mix of musical instruments includes drums, guitar, Venezuelan cuatro, Bolivian panpipes and vocals.
A panpipe-playing workshop is 4 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Nicolaysen Art Museum
