Self-defense for boomers

A class designed to teach boomers how to cope with situations that arise in which they may need to defend themselves is being offered through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, OLLI at Casper College, on Monday and Tuesday.

“Do Not Be a Victim: Defense Tactics for Boomers,” will provide ways for boomers to avoid current scams, situational awareness, and learn strategies for scenarios including active shooter and home security. Instructor Jeremy Shearer will demonstrate the principles of balance, strength, and joint manipulation, and how to avoid dangerous situations.

The class will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days and will include a 90-minute break for lunch.

Academy band at CC

The United States Air Force Academy Band, Academy Winds, will perform at 7 p.m., in the Wheeler Concert Hall in the Music Building on the Casper College campus. Tickets are required for admission, but the concert is free and open to all. Tickets can be picked up at Hill Music Company and in the Casper College Music Building, Room 137. One of nine performing ensembles within the Academy Band, Academy Winds’ six members are professional active-duty airman musicians. The versatile ensemble presents a unique variety of musical styles from traditional folk to patriotic favorites.

Low vision support meets

The Casper Area Low Vision Support Group will hold its monthly meeting at the Casper Senior Center at 10 a.m. The program will be presented by Laurel Henry and Bri Berquam from Wyoming Independent Living. The Natrona County Library will offer a Downloading eMagazines with RB Digital class from 2 to 4 p.m. Library staff will show patrons how to download eMagazines for free with RB Digital’s mobile app. Call 577-READ x2 or email for more information.

Mardi Gras for tweens

The Natrona County Library will host a Mardi Gras celebration for students in grades 4-6 at 4 p.m. Students will decorate Mardi Gras masks and make king cake donuts. All supplies provided at no cost. Call 577.READ x5 for more information.

CC dinner at Himalayan

Himalayan, Indian, and Nepalese dishes will be available at the first of two cultural dinners scheduled for the 2018 spring semester. The dinner will be held at the Himalayan Cuisine Restaurant. Two seating times will be available: 5:30 or 6:15 p.m.

The dinner will be buffet-style, all you care to eat and will feature both chicken and vegetarian main dish options. In addition to the authentic cuisine and camaraderie, longtime Casper resident Nimi McConigley, originally from Madras, India, will give a presentation on India.

Tickets are $21.49 for adults and $12.49 for children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased online at Casper College students will bus the tables, but there will be no waiters or waitresses.
