Abbey hosts Parables retreat

The Benedictine Nuns at the Abbey of St. Walburga in Virginia Dale, 29 miles south of Laramie at mile marker 381 on U.S. Highway 287, are hosting a one-day retreat, Parables of Jesus: The Talents, today. Admission price of $35 per person includes lunch.

Sunrise hosts family event

Sunrise Baptist Church, 3990 S. McKinley St., will be hosting Larry and Frieda Sinclair Sunday through Wednesday at the church. All are invited to this family event that includes music, creation of beautiful fluorescent black light chalk drawings and ventriloquism with their "son" Willie Joe.

The service times will be Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., and Monday through Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. There is no charge for this event; a love offering will be taken to help with travel expenses.

Sunday School starts this week

Winter Memorial Presbyterian Church, 900 St. John St., will be conducting Sunday School classes from 10-11 a.m. each Sunday, for children ages 3-12. Parents are welcome to attend worship services while their children are enjoying Sunday School.

Musical ministers visit Wednesday

The public is invited to attend a special presentation by the Bob Jones University Musical Ministry Team at Calvary Baptist Church, 1800 S. Conwell St., on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The group will present a program of familiar hymns and gospel songs consisting of piano, vocal and instrumental solos, duets and trios, as well as testimonies from team members. The leader of the team, Jon Reddick, will close the service with a brief message from the Word of God.

Valley church hosts revival

Paradise Valley Christian Church will host a special seminar-revival from Oct. 8 through Oct. 11. The guest speaker is Willie Coop from Scottsbluff, Neb.

Coop will speak at the 9 a.m. Traditional Service and 10 a.m. Contemporary Service, and at 6 p.m. Sunday night. Monday through Wednesday meetings are at 7 p.m. His topic is, "Faithful to the Family, Faithful to the Church."

Coop is minister of a 600-member church, which recently finished a major building project as a result of his dynamic guidance. He works with his father, who is a gifted musician and evangelistic preacher with a 5,000-member church .

Services are open to the public. There will be uplifting Music Team singing and solos as well. A nursery is provided.

Midwest hosts rummage and lunch

Midwest Community United Methodist Church, 150 Stock St., in Midwest, will be the site of a giant rummage sale and soup luncheon Oct. 11.

The rummage sale begins at 9 a.m., and will last throughout the day. The women of the congregation will serve a delicious soup and salad lunch at 11 a.m. for $3 per person or $10 per family. Slices of pie will also be served for $1. Carry-out orders are also available. Proceeds support the ministry of the congregation.

Trinity Lutheran invites students

Vicar Chris Durlacher of Trinity Lutheran Church is instructing a class for Casper College students who wish to learn not only about Christian teachings, but also about Lutheran approaches to Christianity. The classes are held at the college Student Center and begin each Wednesday evening at 8:45 p.m. Current and former Casper College students or anyone interested is welcome to attend.

The Book of Genesis is being covered now. Basic Lutheran principles will be discussed later.

Trinity Lutheran Church, at 12th and Missouri streets in Casper, is a Missouri Synod church. Casper College students are invited to attend services at 9 a.m. each Sunday.

Catholic college hires faculty

LANDER - Wyoming Catholic College President Rev. Robert W. Cook announced recently most of the college's faculty has been hired for the start of classes in the fall of 2007.

Robert Carlson, formerly a philosophy and literature professor at Casper College, will be the academic dean. Jane Medved, also of Casper, will serve as director of admissions.

Other faculty lined up include:

*Mitchell Kalpakgian, professor of literature and writing, of Warner, New Hampshire;

*Peter A. Kwasniewski, associate professor of philosophy, a graduate of The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.;

*Rebecca Murdock, a Lander resident, will teach music history and direct the college's choir and chorale;

*Jennifer Celani, art history professor and former director of education for 22 art museums, of Florence, Italy.

Degreed professors to teach Latin and writing will also join the faculty of WCC, Cook said, with those appointments to be announced later.
