Trout fishing is pretty good during fair weather at the Gray Reef of the North Platte River. Look for water clarity to improve with the colder temperatures. Some surface action can still be found with blue-winged olives, tricos and caddis. Scuds are starting to work underneath. Also bring some San Juan worms and red rock worms with you.

The Miracle Mile is getting a little better for anglers using egg patterns and big, colorful streamers for brown trout.

Water flow is 552 cfs out of Gray Reef Dam; 534 cfs out of Kortez Dam.

- Mark Boname, Platte River Fly Shop in Casper

Snowy weather last weekend kept most anglers away from Alcova and Pathfinder reservoirs. Not many reports, but the fishing probably hasn't changed much from previous weeks. At Alcova, using worms, marshmallows and Power Bait at Black Beach is your best bet for trout.

Pathfinder is 35.3 percent full.

- Yolanda Strand, Sloane's General Store in Alcova

Inclement weather kept anglers away from Boysen Reservoir for a while but a few boats were on the lake Tuesday. Before the cold weather hit, crappie were biting in the bays, perch around Tough Creek and trout were still active all over the lake. Try trolling worm harnesses for trout and the occasional walleye, although the walleye fishing has slowed down considerably.

Boysen is 83.8 percent full with a dam outflow of 703 cfs.

- Jenella Hackett, Boysen Marina

Glendo Reservoir has been quiet but with nicer weather expected this weekend more boats should be out on the water. Jigging spoons and minnows are your best bets for walleye.

The North Platte River above Glendo should be pretty good using cut bait and stink bait for catfish.

Glendo is 26 percent full with a dam outflow of 27 cfs.

- Bob Shelver, Curly's Leisure Sports in Douglas

The Open Spaces fishing report is compiled on Tuesdays by Wes Smalling, Star-Tribune outdoors editor. Conditions can change daily. Reservoir levels and rivers flows provided by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (cfs = cubic feet per second). To contribute to the report, send an e-mail to wes.smalling@trib.com.
