JACKSON - A New Jersey couple involved in the rafting accident that killed three people on the Snake River in 2006 has filed a lawsuit claiming that tour companies underplayed the danger of rafting there.
Robert and Patricia Rizas of New Jersey filed the lawsuit in state court in Jackson. The suit names East Coast tour company Tauck, Inc., as well as Vail Resorts and Grand Teton Lodge Company.
The 2006 accident in Grand Teton National Park killed Elizabeth and John Rizas of Beaufort, S.C., and Linda Clark of Shreveport, La. They drowned when the raft hit a log in the river and passengers and the boatman were dumped out.
Robert and Patricia Rizas were also on the raft. Robert and John were brothers. The Rizas' lawsuit claims the companies knew conditions were unsafe on the river. The companies haven't yet filed a response.
