PINEDALE - The Wyoming Game and Fish Department says a grizzly bear is living in the Wyoming Range, outside of the Yellowstone area where most grizzlies roam.
An outfitter and a local hunter first spotted the grizzly in the Middle Piney Creek drainage west of Big Piney. They provided photographs to the local game warden to confirm that it was a grizzly bear.
Bear management specialist Zach Turnbull says it's not unusual for young bears to travel long distances from their home ranges.
The bear is living in an area that is popular for black-bear hunting.
Game and Fish officials are urging hunters to be careful not to shoot the grizzly. There are no open hunting seasons for grizzlies in any part of the state.
Wildlife officials are asking anyone who sees the grizzly to call the department's Pinedale office.
