RAWLINS - The parents of a teenager who died in a crash while riding with other students to school is suing the driver of the car and her parents.

The crash on Sept. 11, 2006, killed 17-year-old Taylor Hall, a senior at Rawlins High School. Hall was headed to school with four other students when the car drove onto a median in Rawlins and hit the base of a light pole.

The other four students in the car were injured. They included Kari Davi, driver of the car, who was not cited by police. None of the students was wearing a seat belt.

Davi and her parents, Lawrence and Tana Davi, are being sued by Hall's family. A woman who identified herself as Mrs. Davi hung up when called by The Associated Press on Friday.

An attorney for the Hall family, Michael Schilling, declined to comment.

Wyoming has a two-year statute of limitations on wrongful death lawsuits. The Halls filed their lawsuit Sept. 9, just short of the deadline.

The lawsuit states that Kari Davi "operated the motor vehicle in a negligent and/or reckless and wanton manner, violating established legal duties, including, but not limited to, failure to maintain a single lane of traffic, driving in excess of posted speed, driving upon the improved median of a street, and reckless endangerment."

The lawsuit further states that the 1988 Toyota Tercel had at least one defective seat belt.

In addition, the lawsuit states that Lawrence and Tana Davi "knew that their daughter was 16 years of age, was inexperienced in driving and operating an automobile, and was reckless and incompetent to handle and operate such vehicle."
