A vaccine storage issue has prompted Wyoming Department of Health officials to recommend re-vaccination for some Carbon County residents immunized over the last few months.
A series of temperature fluctuations was recently detected in the refrigerators used to store vaccines at the Carbon County Public Health Nursing Office in Rawlins, according to a press release.
Vaccines are very sensitive to modest changes in temperature that can alter their effectiveness, officials said.
The health department recommends about 142 local residents, who received vaccines from May 21 to Sept. 5 at the nursing office, to be re-vaccinated. The department will be making efforts to contact those affected patients.
About $19,600 in vaccines was discarded and the state will incur more costs re-vaccinating people.
Affected residents should receive letters within a few day and are asked to call the Carbon County Public Health Nursing Office at (307) 328-2607 a arrange a time to be re-vaccinated at no charge.
