BOULDER, Colo. - Boulder residents worried about greenhouse gas emissions are calling on their local officials to be tougher with energy providers about renewable energy.

A pile of faux coal is being trucked in for Monday's lunchtime rally near the Valmont Coal Plant. Residents want the city to negotiate more forcefully with Xcel Energy to demand energy other than fossil fuels.

Boulder officials set a goal in 2002 to reduce carbon emissions 7 percent below 1990 levels. That goal has not been met, and some residents say the rally is meant to pressure leaders to work harder to reduce carbon emissions.
