While the Catholic church's diocese in Cheyenne awaits a new diocesan bishop appointed by Pope Benedict XVI, the College of Consultors elected a temp.
Chosen on Wednesday, Father Michael Carr will serve as the diocesan administrator taking on most of the obligations and powers of the Diocesan Bishop, excluding those matters which are excepted by canon law or those things which require episcopal orders.
Father Carr will serve in this position until a new bishop is appointed and installed for the Diocese of Cheyenne.
The Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Pietro Sambi has begun the process of selecting a new bishop, a process that takes six months to a year or more.
