Star Lane final presentations

The two final Star Lane Center student presentations at 1400 South Fairdale will be held today and Thursday. The freshman and sophomore students have been asked to coordinate an initial CRM effort at the Audubon Center in Casper. There has been an increase in the number of prairie dogs in the area as a result of urban sprawl. Star Lane students have been conducting a field study to collect data, start discussion, and support the needs of landowners and the public who utilize the area. They have prepared a plan that outlines possible control methods that will help maintain the ecology of the area. They will present their conclusions and recommendations today at 9 a.m., and 1 p.m. Junior and senior students have been investigating the effects of methamphetamine production in Casper neighborhoods. They have prepared a case fact file for the district attorney and developed a list of recommendations for property owners regarding legal responsibilities for clean-up. They will present their findings on Thursday, at 9 a.m., and 1 p.m.. MDA lockup returns Area business owners, employees and associates will be locked up for "good" during Casper Lock-Up to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Jailbirds will either be arrested by the Casper Fire Fighters in vehicles provided by Greiner or turn themselves in peacefully and spend one hour of "jailtime" at Poorboys' Steakhouse between 10 a.m., and 3 p.m. Participants are asked to raise their $1,600 "bail" prior to the event; otherwise, cell phones will be available, courtesy of Union Cellular. Every jailbird who raises bail will be entered into a drawing to win two roundtrip airfares to Las Vegas, courtesy of Allegiant Air. For more information, call 472-0755. Donate blood Memorial Day is dedicated to the memory of lost loved ones. With this in mind, United Blood Services is inviting Casper residents to donate blood in the memory of the special one they've lost and receive a commemorative keepsake in memory of that lost loved one. Best of all, since United Blood Services is the only provider of blood to our local hospitals, your blood donation will help to save a life in our own community or provide a family a little more time with their loved one. United Blood Services will be providing commemorative certificates to all donors who have lost a loved one. Due to the limited supply of these keepsakes, they will be available to donors today only. Appointments are strongly encouraged. However, walk-ins are welcome. The blood center hours for today are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information or to make a blood donation appointment, call United Blood Services in Casper at 237-2328 or the appointment help desk at 1-800-365-4450. Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger.
