LANDER - The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is warning people to use caution around mountain lions.

Erin Smith with the game department in Lander said a lion has been seen recently around the city of Riverton.

Smith said most of Wyoming is lion habitat and said citizens can take precautions to reduce the possibility of lion encounters.

Smith said the game department encourages people not to feed deer or other wildlife that would attract lions. People also should not leave pet food outdoors.

Residents should also be especially cautious at dawn, dusk and at night. The game department encourages people to carry pepper spray to counter any lion attacks.
