RAWLINS - They don't call it the Snowy Range for nothing.

Crews with the Wyoming Department of Transportation are working to plow the snow off of Snowy Range Pass to get Wyoming Highway 130 open by Memorial Day. Some of the snow drifts they're facing are 20 feet deep.

Scott Kinniburgh is leader of the Saratoga WyDOT maintenance crew. He says there's even more snow this year than last year.

The Saratoga crew is using three big rotary plows and two bulldozers to plow its portion of about 20 miles of road between Centennial and Ryan Park. The road crosses over the pass at 10,847 feet elevation.

Opening the road, which is closed all winter, provides access to dozens of lakes, campgrounds and recreation areas in the Medicine Bow National Forest.
