GILLETTE - Jury selection has started in Gillette in the trial of a man charged with attempted second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Twenty-three-year-old Brian L. Brown is charged with shooting a shotgun at a man during a fight at a party last October.

Prosecutors say Brown was trying to kill Shawn Cunningham when he fired shots at Cunningham's truck. Cunningham's truck hit two parked cars as he sped off.

Court records state that Brown has said he fired the gun to protect himself and others at the party.
