Children's chorale scores big

The Casper Children's Chorale, led by Marcia Patton, won several honors and took first place at the Heritage Festival in Colorado Springs recently, according to Venessa Yoosook, publicity chairwoman.

While in Colorado, the group sang at the Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel and toured the Academy grounds. They visited the Garden of the Gods and the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. They also went to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and enjoyed a chuckwagon dinner and western show at the Flying J Ranch.

The chorale's honors included:

* Gold Award. Given to choirs that receive 90 points out of 100.

* Adjudicator's award. Any choir receiving a 95 from the judges.

* Outstanding choral group. Best group at the festival.

* Spirit of Colorado Springs. The group that best exemplifies the spirit of

Heritage Festivals.

* Maestro Award: Likai He, violinist and sixth-grade singer, won this award.

* Festival of Gold invitation, good for two years. The chorale plans to travel to New York City in 2008.

Auditions for the 2007-2008 season will be May 16 through 31. Auditions are open to fourth- through eighth-grade students. Auditions are also being held for the primer chorale group, Bel Canto, directed by Delores Howell and open to children ages 7 through 11.
