Bilingual Storytime at NC library

Natrona County Public Library and the Natrona County School District #1 Title III staff will present Bilingual Storytime on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at the library.

The event is for children who are learning Spanish and native Spanish speakers, as well as children who want to hear stories in another language, and will include stories, poems, songs and crafts.

Hogadon to open Nov. 28

The 2008 - 2009 Hogadon Ski season will tentatively begin on Friday, Nov. 28.

A special pre-season pass rate is $180 per person, and first-time season pass holders can purchase a $120 season pass.

After the pre-season promotions, regular full price season passes will apply. Regular season pass prices are: $225 Child (ages 5 to 12); $300 Youth (ages 13 to 18); and $375 Adult (ages 19 and older). Lift Ticket Prices are $14 Poma Lift (all day and half day); $21 Child (all day and half day); $28 Adult and Youth half Day; $31 Youth all day; $37 Adult All Day. There are also several special and group rates available.

Guerilla marketer Jay Conrad Levinson to speak

Jay Conrad Levinson, known for the "Guerilla Marketing" book series, will be the speaker for the Casper College Chamberlain Lecture Series on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. at the Best Western Ramkota Inn.

Admission to the event is free.

Levinson is the author of the best-selling marketing series in history, 'Guerrilla Marketing,' and 30 other books.

He has taught guerrilla marketing for 10 years at the extension division of the University of California in Berkeley. He was also a practitioner of the marketing style in both the United States, as senior vice-president at J. Walter Thompson, and in Europe, as creative director and board member at Leo Burnett Advertising.

Levinson is the chairman of Guerrilla Marketing International, a marketing partner of Adobe and Apple. He has served on the Microsoft Small Business Council.

New Family Resource Center opens in Frontier Middle School

Mercer House, Inc., in partnership with the Natrona County School District, has opened a second Family Resource Center in Frontier Middle School. The first center opened last month in Mountain View Elementary School.

The Family Resource Centers are dedicated to the encouragement, enrichment and personal fulfillment within the family unit. The Centers are available to all families in the Natrona County School District, and provide a variety of services to assist families in meeting their full potential.

Family Resource Center advocates refer families to community programs that are appropriate for their individual needs, such as emergency assistance, employment, parenting classes and educational resources. In addition, the centers host family incentive programs, as well as monthly workshops aimed at parenting concerns like internet safety, nutrition and financial management.

Weekly mailings supplement these workshops.

Skate across America

The Casper Ice Arena will be hosting "Skate Across America" one Sunday each month during the 2008-2009 season, according to a release.

The program will start on the East Coast and will eventually end up in Casper. Each month will feature a new city. Oct. 19 will feature Washington, D.C.

These days will feature music, fun facts, trivia (with prizes) and food from the featured city.

Events will be held during the 1 to 3 p.m. Public Skating Sessions on Sundays. Admission is $3.00 per person and skate rental is $2.00. Children 4 and under are free with a paid adult.

CRC hosts fall carnival

The 28th Annual Fall Carnival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m at the Casper Recreation Center.

The event is free and will feature a variety of fall-themed games, treats and events throughout the evening. A costume parade will begin at 7 p.m. to showcase all costumes worn to the event.

The carnival is designed for children ages 12 and under and their parents. All participants will receive treats and game prizes, and will also be able to taste the mysterious 'Witches' Brew.'

Participants can make pumpkin or ghost crafts, and there will be a room featuring Halloween movies and videos. For those more daring individuals, the Haunted Locker Room is sure to be a "spook-tacular" treat.

The event is sponsored by the Community Recreation Foundation, Pepsi, and the Casper Recreation Division.

Friends Day at the Casper Ice Arena

The Casper Ice Arena is hosting Bring a Friend Ice Skating on Saturday, October 18 from 1-3 p.m. Everyone paying for an admission and skate rental may bring one friend to ice skate for free. Regular admission is $3 per person with rental skates available for an additional $2.

Zachary Pullen, local children's book illustrator, will be at the rink during Bring a Friend Ice Skating to launch his recently published book, 'Casey and Derek on the Ice,' authored by Marty Sederman.
