Hey, Answer Girl --

I was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over for a missing tail light. The police officer asked to see my identification as well as the driver's. Is that standard practice now?

-- Dean

It's common practice during any kind of traffic stop for an officer to take identification of anyone in the car.

From a safety standpoint, police officers want to know of everyone involved in the stop, just in case something unexpected and bad was to happen.

The officer won't always take identification from passengers, but more often than not, particularly at night, you can expect the officer to ask.

As for people without ID - kids, for instance - officers will take care to ask for others' identification just to make sure children are with those they need to be with.

Hey, Answer Girl --

What did the Bryan Stock Trail used to be, before it was a road? Was it a sheep trail or something?

-- William C. in Casper

Kevin Anderson, historian at the Casper College Western History Center, found an unsigned letter from a member of the Bryan family, dated 1999, with just the information you seek.

Here's what it said:

"Bryan Stock Trail - The Bryan Stock Trail started at Midwest Wyo. and came to Casper. All the ranchers between drove their cattle and sheep to Casper to the stock yard located where the present day Wyo. Concrete Pipe is. The livestock was loaded on the train to go to Denver or Omaha to the Packing house. There was a slaughter house located on the big hill about a half mile from the Bryan home. It was operated by Otto Nettimer and was built in early 1900. Later on it became Rocky Mountain Packing Co. operated by Rudy Stanko. When he went out of business it was torn down."
