Crews extinguished fires in two Natrona County homes Sunday night.
No one was injured in the fires, which happened about an hour apart, according to the Natrona County Fire District.
The first fire, which began at 5:41 p.m. at a home on the 12500 block of East Highway 20-26, was caused by creosote, a build-up carbon materials in the home's fireplace and chimney flue.
Brick and mortar surrounding the flue prevented the fire from extending to other part of the house and the residents were able to remain in the home, according to the fire district.
About an hour later, emergency responders learned of the second fire, in the garage of a home on the 8000 block of Sims Creek Road. County crews, along with the Evansville Fire Department, were still at the first fire, so crews from Casper and Mills responded to the second blaze.
That fire destroyed the garage and extended into the home itself before being extinguished. The cause remains under investigation.
Residents of that home met with the American Red Cross and received a City County Firefighters Burn Fund check.
