Dick Cheney will return to his hometown of Casper on Sunday to raise money for the Wyoming Republican Party.

The vice president plans to attend a fundraising reception for Republican candidates and Republican get-out-the-vote efforts. Tickets cost $1,200, and a photo op with Cheney costs an extra $300.

The event kicks off at 1 p.m. in the finished upstairs of a horse barn owned by Diemer True, Wyoming's Republican national committeeman. Well over 100 people attended a similar fundraiser in the barn with Cheney four years ago, True said.

True said tickets this year are selling fast.

"This may be the last visit the vice president makes to Casper in an official capacity before his term ends, so there's been a lot of interest," he said.

One of those planning to attend is Cynthia Lummis, a former state treasurer who's running for the Republican nomination for Wyoming's U.S. House seat.

"There are candidates on the Republican ticket for county commissioner, and sheriff and legislators as well as our entire congressional delegation," Lummis said. "To the extent that the vice president is able to help the Wyoming Republican Party raise funds to support all of its candidates up and down the ticket, I could not be more pleased."

Two other Republican candidates for the U.S. House said they've committed to be at a Laramie County Republican Party pie social in Pine Bluffs on Sunday. Buffalo-area rancher Mark Gordon said he's checking his schedule to see if he can attend both events.

Gordon said he appreciates Cheney's efforts to counter donations to the lone Democrat in the U.S. House race, Wilson businessman Gary Trauner.

"It's great because this is going to be a hard-fought campaign. Obviously Gary is working hard to raise money and is raising a lot of money," Gordon said.

Retired Navy officer Bill Winney said he won't be able to make it to Casper, but he applauds Cheney's appearance.

"He's a favorite son of the state, and he does have a draw. There's a lot of people who like talking to him," Winney said.

A Cheney spokeswoman said the vice president will be in Beaver Creek, Colo., on Saturday for an annual conference of the American Enterprise Institute.
