The Casper City Council will consider making its meetings more accessible to the public by broadcasting them live on the Internet.
At 3:30 p.m. Monday the council will hear from a San Francisco firm that specializes in local government communications. The Granicus company will provide a demonstration of its services at City Hall.
Archived recordings of city meetings would also be available online if the city decides to use the company's services. The goals would be to increase opportunities for citizens to interact with government and to better educate the public on city issues, City Manager Tom Forslund said in a memo.
Later at its work session, which begins at 4:30 p.m. Monday, the council will:
* consider authorizing an agreement with NOWCAP Services that would allow the city to extend Walsh Drive north to East Yellowstone Highway through NOWCAP property in exchange for the city surveying and platting the property, a value of approximately $4,500.
* vote on the second of three readings of an ordinance to create local improvement districts in order to make curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements to allow homeowners in various parts of the city better access to their driveways. Some streets were not designed with "curb cuts" making it difficult for residents to drive into their driveways.
* consider the possibility of fencing off, rather than moving, the eastside gateway statue "Man Made Energy," which was blocked first by a billboard and more recently by industrial equipment. A fence would screen blockage and give passing motorists a clear view of the art, which depicts four Casper oilmen.
* consider bidding to host the 2010 Wyoming Association of Municipalities convention.
* discuss council initiatives on domestic violence and public information.
The meetings are open to the public.
