Mills police arrested a Natrona County man following a car chase that spanned roughly 50 miles.

Frank Duffield Talmage, 45, was arrested on Monday night and charged with, among other things, reckless endangering, attempting to elude officers, driving while under suspension and speeding.

Mills police officer Derek Ransom noticed a truck driving in Mills around 6:30 p.m. Monday, with a passenger who had an outstanding warrant. He tried to pull the truck over near Falcon and Poison Spider roads when it drove faster instead of stopping. The truck then turned west onto Natrona Avenue, Ransom wrote in an affidavit.

Ransom continued following the truck down Natrona Avenue, onto Oregon Trail and through a stop sign near West Yellowstone Highway, Ransom wrote. The truck driver appeared "intoxicated or impaired" and continued driving west on U.S. Highway 20/26, running a red light and driving between 75 and 80 mph.

The driver threw small, unidentifiable items out the window, Ransom wrote, when a dispatcher told Ransom that the truck driver was on the phone. Talmage reportedly told the dispatcher that he wouldn't stop and that he was "off his meds." He also said there was a baby in the truck, but Ransom reported he had only seen Ransom and an adult passenger.

Another Mills officer joined Ransom on the chase and followed the truck down a county road. A Natrona County Sheriff's deputy placed spikes on a cattle guard, which flattened three tires and stopped the truck, Ransom wrote.

While in the patrol car, Talmage reportedly said he was sorry and that he, "just didn't want to go to jail again," Ransom wrote.

Talmage was taken to the Natrona County Detention Center and remained there Tuesday afternoon in lieu of $5,810 bond.
