Donate food during two separate food drives, enjoy a free band concert and attend the ghoulish symphony this evening.
On Sunday, a unique partnership between a Casper College class and the Nicolaysen Art Museum results in a "Day of the Dead" event, also free at the Nic.
Here is a look at what's to do this weekend, with a special chronological look at Halloween festivities. (Call it bonus coverage from the baddest witch around.)
The members of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No. 322 and their families will be stationed at both Albertson's locations in Casper from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. accepting donations of food for the needy in the Casper community.
The Casper Future Farmers of America students are conducting their annual Can or Treat community service project beginning at 6 p.m. in the Wolf Creek and Paradise Valley areas. All nonperishable food items will be accepted. All proceeds will go to the Salvation Army.
The Casper College Concert Band will be in concert in Durham Hall in the Aley Fine Arts Center at 3 p.m. The concert will feature music from Leonard Bernstein, Johannes Brahms, Gustav Holst, Nicoli Rimsky-Korsakoff and Claude T. Smith. Doug Bull is the conductor.
The Casper Senior Center and The SwingSounds Dance Band hosts a dance from 7 to 10 p.m., in the Casper Senior Center Ball Room at 1831 E. Fourth St. Admission is $4 per person.
Patrons are welcome in costume at the Ghoulish Wyoming Symphony Orchestra performance, featuring Ryan Anthony on the trumpet. Selections include "A Witch's Sabbath," "Concerto, Trumpet, E-flat major," "Symphony No. 5" by Beethoven; and "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m., in the NCHS John F. Welsh Auditorium.
On Sunday, both the Eagles Lodge, 306 N. Durbin, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9439, 1800 Bryan Stock Trail, serve breakfast with proceeds going to charity. The Eagles charity for November is the Jimmy Durante Children's Fund. VFW proceeds go to Joshua's Storehouse. Both are served from 8 to 11 a.m.
The National Association of Letter Carriers 1681 is participating in the first nationwide Deliver the Cure Bowl-A-Thon at Eagle Bowl, 306 N. Durbin, beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Funds raised by the bowl-a-thon will help MDA provide specialized medical care, support services, as well as barrier-free summer camp for hundreds of Wyoming MDA families.
A new exhibit at the Nicolaysen Art Museum, and curated by students enrolled in the Casper College class "Museum Studies," will open to the public for free from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
"Day of the Dead: A Mexican Remembrance Tradition" will run through Sunday, Nov. 8. During the opening on Sunday, visitors will be entertained by the Flores de Colores Dance Troupe from Cheyenne, a mariachi singer, and will also have the opportunity to visit with the students who organized the exhibit.
Artists including Nancy Madura, Michael Olson, Bev Reiner, and Linda Ryan have created memorial altars for the exhibit that are a traditional element of the Day of the Dead event, incorporating food, art, flowers, and references to the deceased.
