Would-be Romeo goes to jail

A 46-year-old man was spotted on Friday morning walking in the area of CY Motel carrying a "large handful of geraniums" that appeared to have fresh dirt clinging to their roots, according to a police report.

The man was also steadying himself by holding onto a fence, the report says, and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of public intoxication. He was unable to say where the flowers came from and yelled at the arresting police officer as he was taken to jail, according to the report.

He apparently planned to give the flowers to a woman who lived in an unspecified location, the report continues, and told the officer he did not know how to "treat a woman."

Man charged with child abuse

A woman moving out of a house on South Conwell Street during the weekend told police that the man she lived with there had a history of being rough with her children.

The 34-year-old man was initially arrested Sunday on an outstanding warrant, but he could face two charges of child abuse, according to a police report.

Police say the woman's daughter had a number of bruises on her body. The mother told police that she, her son and the man had gotten into a fight last week over whether to spank the child for "refusing to go to sleep."

Police report that the son also appeared to have bruising around his neck, apparently as the result of the fight days earlier.

Commissioners meet

The Natrona County commissioners will meet at 5:30 this afternoon. The commission is slated to proclaim the first week of October National 4-H Week.

The agenda also calls for a public hearing on a resolution to transfer more than over $1 million to the expansion of Casper's detention center.

The meeting will be held at the County Annex building and is open to the public.
