The truck driver killed Christmas Eve when high winds rolled his big rig has been identified as a 63-year-old man from St. Paul, Minn.

Bernard G. Danielson died at the scene after his truck, which was hauling mail, rolled onto its roof along Wyoming Boulevard near McKinley Street, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Winds were blowing at 51 mph, with 68 mph gusts, at the time.

Danielson was hauling a lightly loaded trailer east when the wreck occurred at 11:43 a.m. The force of the crash crushed his truck and trailer, scattering mail across the prairie.

A Chevrolet Tahoe traveling in the opposite direction collided with the roof of the trailer, the highway patrol said. The sport utility vehicle rolled once, coming to rest in a ditch along the road.

The Tahoe's driver, Diane S. Mattern, 61, of Casper was taken to Wyoming Medical Center. An update on her condition was not immediately available.

Both Mattern and Danielson were wearing their seat belts, the highway patrol said.

Danielson was the 147th person to die on Wyoming roads this year. Last year, there were 192 deaths over the same period.
