Fire gutted a house in north Casper Tuesday afternoon, but the man who was home at the time managed to get out safely.

The fire broke out in the front part of the home at 1023 N. Kimball St. at about 4:30 p.m., said Casper Fire-EMS spokesman Craig Kidder.

When firefighters arrived, half of the home was in flames, he said. Crews managed to knock down most of the fire in less than five minutes.

The home is a total loss, Kidder said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Jon Jones was in the home when the fire broke out. He heard the sound of flames, and then saw his bed burning, he said. He tried to put out the fire with water from a bucket, but found that he had to escape.

Jones said his mother owns the home. He will receive money from the Casper-Natrona County Burn Fund to pay for shelter and food.
