A 32-year-old Casper man faces charges of assault and battery, possession of a controlled substance and interference with a police officer after allegedly getting into a fight with his roommate.

According to a police affidavit, Jason Dale Smith began hitting his roommate, 22-year-old William Arlon Defer on Thursday just before noon after he asked Defer for money and Defer said he had none. Smith tried to take off Defer's clothes and began searching Defer's pockets for money.

Defer said Smith then told him to leave the house in the 400 block of North Lowell Street. Defer called police after walking to a nearby business in his socks. When officers arrived at Smith's home, they recognized what appeared to be methamphetamine in the toilet and on a spoon, which was on a shelf above the toilet.
