The reconstruction work on East Second Street is scheduled to wrap up for the year sometime in October and will resume in the spring, said Wyoming Department of Transportation spokesman Jim Nations.
Crews from Hedquist Construction, the project's contractor, will put down a temporary surface on the unfinished portions of the street before the snow starts in order to accommodate traffic this winter on all four lanes of Second Street, Nations said.
The work on Second Street from Beverly to Wyoming Boulevard should be totally completed by the end of June 2004, Nations added.
Crews in coming weeks also will be placing a temporary surface on Wyoming Highway 220 near Muddy Gap, Nations said. The work southwest of Casper will resume again in the spring, he added.
Reconstruction work on Interstate 25 between Casper and Glenrock should be completed by the end of this construction season, the WYDOT spokesman said.
Most construction work on Casper's streets also should cease in the coming weeks, said Hal Hutchinson, the city's engineer.
Reconstruction work on CY Avenue between 12th and 14th streets is now going well and should be done by the end of the month, Hutchinson said.
The work on CY was scheduled to be completed around Sept. 1 but was delayed due to the unforeseen replacement of utilities in the area.
Most of the utilities below CY that needed to be replaced have been replaced and crews are now working on laying down concrete, said Hutchinson and Wallace Hendricks, the president and general manager of JTL Group Inc, the contractor on the project.
Work will also be completed on a repaving project on Valley Drive in Paradise Valley by the end of October, Hutchinson said.
The work will involve laying down a new blanket of asphalt and will cause short closures on Valley Drive, he added.
Delays on this project like those seen at CY and 12th are unlikely because the city has a very good idea of what kind of utilities lie beneath Valley Drive, Hutchinson said.
