Officials from five agencies responded to and contained a chemical spill near the Casper Water Treatment Plan Thursday morning. No injuries were reported.

A tanker carrying ferric chloride spilled approximately 17 gallons of the chemical on Wyoming Boulevard as it was entering the treatment facility, according to a release from Casper Fire-EMS.

Ferric chloride is a toxic and corrosive material used to coagulate dirt and sediment in the early stages of the water treatment process. The chemical is a respiratory hazard when it is dry.

The trunk included two tanks, and a piece of the cap to the front tank was lost sometime during transit to the treatment facility. Law enforcement officials retraced the truck's route and found no other evidence of spills.

Casper Fire-EMS, City of Casper Solid Waste and Streets, Natrona County Emergency Management, the Wyoming Department of Transportation and the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality responded to the incident. Members of Casper Fire-EMS isolated the area upon arrival, while the Sold Waste and Streets crews contained and disposed the spilled material.

The material was confined to sand and was later transported to the Regional Waste Facility.
