A local church will host an evening of good, clean fun at 7 p.m. today for the first "Christian Night Club Night."

Pete McLeod, an award-winning comedian, illusionist and musician, will be performing at the Soldiers of the Light Church at 949 N. Durbin St., in north Casper.

"When we researched, we started looking at a number of comedians," said media director Larry Burger. "We were looking for someone who wouldn't offend anyone. Pete just stuck out."

There will be no smoking or drinking at the event, and there will be no vulgarity in the comedy act.

"We wanted to do something that people in the community could go to and know it would be good, clean fun," said Pastor Debbie Dallman. "We're just going to fill up the place and have a fun night."

The church has been holding special events like this off and on for 10 years, but Burger said the goal is to make them a more regular occurrence.

"I don't believe we could support something like this every week or month," he said. "But at least a few times a year consistently. We'll see how well this goes."

Dallman and Burger said they want to raise awareness that there is good, clean entertainment for people who don't want to go out to the bars or worry about what their children may hear.

The church also holds Friday nights get-togethers with different speakers, music and stories every week.

Next on the agenda for the Soldiers of the Light is a North Casper community cookout on Aug. 16. Burger said there will be food, booths, music and a street dance. The event will take place in the area around the church.

The Soldiers of the Light Church is nondenominational and the public is welcome to attend. The evening with Pete McLeod is geared toward adults, but children are welcome to attend if they are closely supervised.
