The Wyoming Department of Health has organized a series of workshops to help employers promote health and wellness among workers.

Over the next two months, nine workshops will be held throughout the state, with the first one set for today in Riverton. They are part of larger effort by state health officials to encourage Wyoming residents to improve their health, said health department spokeswoman Kim Deti.

"One of the ways to do that is to work through employers," she said. "Employers have a pretty vested interest in the health of their employees."

Participants will learn steps they can take to encourage healthier workers.

The health department is partnering with a private firm, TwoMedicine Health and Financial Fitness, to run the workshops. The firm will also offer follow-up support to participants.

The workshops cost $20 and run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants must register in advance.

Sessions are set for:

-- Nov. 10 in Riverton

-- Nov. 12 in Worland

-- Nov. 13 in Cody

-- Nov. 17 and 18 in Cheyenne

-- Nov. 19 in Laramie

-- Dec. 1 in Casper

-- Dec. 2 in Gillette

-- Dec. 3 in Sheridan.

Additional workshops will be held next year in Rock Springs, Evanston and Jackson.
