Police say motorcyclist fled

A 26-year-old man was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of fleeing on a motorcycle from a Casper police officer earlier in the evening.

Jerome Walter Krause was taken into custody shortly after 10 p.m. on a charge of eluding a police officer. Police say he was driving a motorcycle earlier in the evening that was observed traveling "about 100 mph" on Interstate 25.

According to a statement from the arresting officer, the motorcyclist exited I-25 at Wyoming Boulevard, traveling south before turning on Second Street. The officer says he lost sight of the motorcyclist after he reached about 80 mph on Second.

Krause was inside a car with two other men at the time of his arrest more than two hours later, according to the affidavit. The driver of that car also fled from police, according to an affidavit, and one of its occupants told police that Krause had borrowed his motorcycle earlier.

Police seek information about burglaries

Two homes in central Casper were broken into during the last two weeks while the residents were sleeping inside, police say.

In each case, according to a Crime Stoppers announcement, a person or group took items from inside the homes and from cars parked on the property.

Anyone with information about these burglaries or other crimes is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 577-8477. Callers will remain anonymous and are eligible to receive reward money for information they provide.

Construction planned on Hwy. 20/26

The Wyoming Department of Transportation will pave sections of Highway 20/26 from Ghost Town Truck Stop past the entrance to Natrona County International Airport starting today.

Traffic will be restricted to two-way travel in the work area. The service road next to the highway will be open, but access to 6WN Road will temporarily be closed.

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible and are reminded to obey all traffic directions when traveling through the work zone.

Paving is expected to be completed by Friday.

Casper firefighters place in regional tournament

The Casper Firefighters' Combat Challenge Team placed fifth on Saturday in a regional event in Seattle, qualifying for the World Championship in Henderson, Nev., in November.

The Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge encourages firefighter fitness and demonstrates the rigors of the profession, according to its Web site. Wearing full gear and breathing equipment, pairs of firefighters simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting through a series of five tasks, including a five-story tower climb, hoisting, chopping, hose dragging and rescuing a life-size "victim" in a timed competition.

In addition to the fifth-place overall finish, individual Casper firefighters placed as follows: Jennifer Holt, second place for women, 4:05; Jeff Carroll, third place over 40, 36th place overall, 2:15; Micah Rush, 10th place, 1:48; James Maddox, 16th place, 1:56; Tye Herron, 21st place, 1:58; Chad Denton, 29th place, 2:06; and William Bohman, 48th, 2:29.
