Instead of reading a report, a group of local actors will act out four scenarios for the Natrona County school board that the district could face in the future.

Painted Past, a local acting troupe, will act out scenarios that district officials and Denver educational consultant McRel worked on for the past year and a half. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. tonight in the Central Services Facility, 970 N. Glenn Road.

"Instead of giving the board a packet to read, we're going to have Painted Past act out the scenarios," said Kelly Eastes, district community partnerships manager.

Community members, staff and administration also worked on the different scenarios. The scenarios that will be presented are entitled "Mr. Holland's Opus," "Stand and Deliver," "The Breakfast Club" and "Animal House."

The "Mr. Holland's Opus" scenario tells a story where student engagement and public support is high, the report indicated. The "Stand and Deliver" scenario explains a situation where the student engagement is high, but public support for schools is low.

Under "The Breakfast Club" scenario, both student engagement and public support are low. The "Animal House" scenario shows student engagement being low but public support being high.

Each scenario suggests options for action, but aren't meant to be specific plans that should be pursued, the report indicated. The scenarios are designed to spur conversations.

Prior to the work session, the district's Compact Issues Committee will meet between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The committee will discuss several issues including salaries. CIC will also meet on Tuesday during the same time period.

During the board's regular meeting, which starts at 7:30 p.m., trustees will act on several personal recommendations. The board is expected to act on appointing Michael Bond as the principal of Sagewood Elementary School.

Bond's appointment resulted after the combination of McKinley Elementary School and Westwood Elementary School into Cottonwood Elementary, a memo from Superintendent Jim Lowham to the school board indicated. The principal vacancy at Sagewood resulted when the former principal accepted a job in Colorado.

The board is also expected to act on appointing Douglas Diehl as the Natrona County High School varsity girls basketball coach, and Sally Nichols as the NCHS varsity volleyball coach.
