There are small ones, big ones and gigantic ones. There are rustic ones and chic ones. Heck, there are probably ones for Papa Bear, Mama Bear and Baby Bear.

This year's Chair-ity Auction and Wine Tasting to benefit Central Wyoming Hospice and Transition Program is Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Parkway Plaza Hotel. Remaining tickets are very limited and are available in advance for $30 each at Flower Gallery in Sunrise Shopping Center, Poplar Wine & Spirits at Collins and Poplar, Hospice at 319 S. Wilson, Blue Heron Books & Espresso downtown in the Atrium Plaza and Sadler's Hallmark in the Eastridge Mall.

"I would just be out dancing in the streets if I could get $80,000," said event chairman Paula Reid.

The evening's entertainment includes the largest collection of wines Mike and David Reid have ever gathered, fabulous and endless hors d'oeuvres from the Parkway Plaza and a silent and live auction of the custom-decorated chairs and numerous other items donated by local artists and residents.

"This is the largest collection I've ever had," Mike Reid said Tuesday of the 250 wines that will be available. "There will be 25 tables of wine with 10 brokers and 75 to 100 different wineries represented."

He said he and Pat Sweeney of the Parkway Plaza have done six of these gigantic wine tasting events, with the beneficiary alternating between the Wyoming Medical Center Foundation and Hospice.

While the wines offer a temporary delight, the more than two dozen chairs customized for the event would provide lasting delight for the purchasers.

Perfect for a child's play room or cozy country office would be the antique school chair donated by Mary Bishop of Bishop Real Estate and painted by Taryn Mauth of Casper.

In sky blue and antique red, the chair features A, B, C's on the back and Raggedy Ann and Andy on the seat.

Pat Nagel has retired from a career in public service and has returned to her initial pursuit of interior design with a splendid, forest green and wicker chair titled, "Roaming Wyoming." Among the features are fringe, a mini landscape painting, and a rod and reel as one of the front supports.

For those whose pleasure comes from the water, George Rooney has restored a mammoth deck chair, named "Old Salty," which he painted white and refurbished with thick cushions of blue and white striped ticking.

Sculptor Chris Navarro has crafted a tribute to Native Americans, with a wooden chair graced with beadwork and buffalo. He was assisted in the project by his wife, Lynne.

Other local artists and celebrities who have decorated chairs for the auction include Colleen Allison, Kristen Baird-Terzich, Dianne Butler, Kathy Cherry, Carol Douglass and Jeanne Peach, Rita Elmore, Barb Livingston, Trudi McMurry, Sandra Malone, Glenna Nash, A.J. Reynolds, Sutton Robeson, Sheila Ross, Karen Rufenacht, Deb Smith, Michele Soulek, Jane Sullivan and Bob Seabeck, Kermit Wille, Angie Zambai, Janet Zambai, Marda Nogle, Andrea Roark and Casey Beck, Kenda Hodges and Kathy Ulrich.

For those with the urge to go, two complete trips will be auctioned during the evening with destinations of Cabo San Lucas and upstate New York. Those packages include airfare, ground transportation and lodging.

Among the many other auction items donated to the live and silent auction include a pheasant hunting trip donated by Gail Zimmerman, a day of fly fishing donated by John Dolan, etched wine glasses and bottle donated by P.J. Spalding, an Elvis commemorative decanter filled with 1955 bourbon donated by Marion Bouzis, a framed print of the Eiffel Tower taken and donated by Shawn Rivett, a weekend at the "Bud Man's" house in Vail, Colo., donated by Carroll Orrison and numerous gift certificates from retail, service and fine dining providers.

Paula Reid hopes to start the live auction about 8 p.m., with Dan Sullivan as the auctioneer to give browsers time to sample the wine, taste the hors d'oeuvres and seek out their favorite chairs.

Baskets full of wine will be raffled for $5 a chance during the evening.

"Anybody of any income can contribute and actually be a part of the event that way," Paula Reid said.
