Anderson holds book signing

Former Casper Journal editor and current Journal columnist Susan Anderson will sign copies of her book, "Wyoming is Wild -- And the Kids Are Barbarians," from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Wind City Books, 152 S. Center St. in Casper, according to a media release.

The book is a collection of Journal columns by Anderson, who has written about Wyoming since moving here in 1980.

Copies of "Wyoming is Wild" will be available to purchase for $14.95. Customers may reserve copies by calling Wind City Books at (307) 315-6003.Copies of Anderson's previous book, "Living in Wyoming: Settling for More," are also available.

Smithsonian scholars visit NCSD

Four Smithsonian scholars will visit Casper Nov. 18 to 21, to bring to life important aspects of the Native American Plains heritage for students and faculty of Natrona County schools, according to a media release.

The presentations are part of the “Smithsonian Scholars in the Schools” program, sponsored by Natrona County schools and the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center in celebration of Native American Heritage Month.

Scholars Dr. Herman Viola, Greg Rodgers, Jim Garry and Jack Gladstone will discuss Native American Plains topics -- including art and culture, myths and lore and cultural change -- with several Natrona County elementary schools.

On Nov. 21, the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center will host a free family day of presentations and lectures.

Casper FFA competes at show

The Casper FFA recently sent a group of students to the American Royal Livestock Show and Rodeo in Kansas City, Mo., to compete in the livestock judging contest, according to a media release.

Out of a total of 26 teams (more than 100 students) from across the country competing in the event, the Casper FFA results were as follows:

* Team cattle division, fifth

* Team swine division, fourth

* Team oral reasons, third

* Overall team, fifth

* Asher Markworth, 11th

* Danielle Mason, 14th

* Tate Chamberlain, 25th

* Courtney Hauf, 30th

* Kim Wolcott, alternate

KW plans early dismissal

Kelly Walsh High School will dismiss students early on Monday due to the State Student Council Convention being hosted at the school, according to a media release.

Classes will begin at the usual time on Monday, but they will be dismissed at 11:08 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11:08 to 11:30 a.m. for those who choose to stay and eat. Buses will run following the 11:08 a.m. dismissal.
