The Natrona County Sheriff's Office continues to search for a hunter missing since about 7 p.m. Saturday evening.

Travis McMahan, 39, wandered off from a campsite he and two fellow hunters had in the Buffalo Creek Campground area, which is roughly 35 miles north of Waltman off of Big Horn Mountain Road. The three men had gone elk hunting in the area Friday evening, according to Sgt. Mark Sellers.

"Apparently, he went out to use the restroom," Sellers said this morning. "He never did return to the camp."

The two other hunters spent most of Saturday night searching the area for McMahan. They were able to place a call to the sheriff's office at approximately 10:55 a.m. Sunday and report the missing man. They remain at the campsite.

A groundcrew searched for McMahan most of the day Sunday and continues to today, along with a helicopter. McMahan, a Casper resident, is not believed to have any food or water with him. There is no cell phone coverage in the area where the men were hunting, Sellers said.

Deputies are unsure if the men had ever hunted the area before.

Sellers noted that the forecast for the northern end of Natrona County calls for freezing temperatures and snow in the upcoming days.
