A homeless man reached for an officer's gun while police struggled to remove him from a Casper hotel room late Thursday, according to a police affidavit.

Officers were able to subdue the man, Nathan Lee Argent, 28, after stunning him several times with a Taser, the affidavit stated.

The incident began at about 11 p.m. Thursday when two officers responded to the Motel 6 on Wilkins Circle. The manager there asked police to remove guests in one of the rooms for being disruptive.

In the affidavit, police described what happened next:

When police forced their way through the door, Argent grabbed one officer by the shoulder and tried to push him back out. The two officers pushed themselves back into the room and tried to get control of Argent. One officer sprayed him with pepper spray, which didn't have any effect.

The officers, Mike Jones and Kirk Buchholz, managed to get Argent down on the ground, but he continued to resist by pushing them and punching at them.

While they tried to flip the struggling man over onto his stomach, Jones noticed Argent's hand on his left ankle, where Jones kept a backup pistol. The pistol ended up on the ground, but Jones retrieved it.

Jones then noticed Argent's hand on Buchholz's pistol. To prevent him from getting the gun, Buchholz hit the suspect in the face.

Despite this, Argent continued to swing at officers and push them away. The officers tried stunning him several times with a Taser, with little to no effect. Finally, Buchholz shocked Argent in the chest, which allowed the officers to handcuff him.

Buchholz suffered an injury to his hand and was treated at Wyoming Medical Center. Jones suffered a cut to his right arm that didn't require medical attention.

Argent suffered a black left eye and other scrapes and bruises. He was examined at the hospital before being take to county jail, where he was booked on suspicion of aggravated assault on a police officer, disarming a police officer and breach of peace.
