Weekend to-do: Buy books, get flu shots, rally with Dems

This weekend offers a variety of activities ranging from buying books to shopping for crafts, getting flu shots and tasting wine.

The Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale is today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., in the lower level of the library, 307 E. Second St.

Kindhearted souls from The American Legion Auxiliary are baking cookies for veterans today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the American Legion Home on Legion Lane.

Anyone wishing to donate fresh baked cookies or ingredients may take them to the Legion Home during baking hours or take them to the Legion after 2:30 p.m., any day and they will keep them. For more information, call Dorothy Boam at 436-9319.

The Sunrise Shopping Center hosts a fall craft fair today and Sunday from 9 a.m., to 5 p.m., each day. All 39 vendor spaces have been sold.

"Your Hearts Desire" hosts its 10th anniversary craft show from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Ramada Plaza Riverside (formerly the Holiday Inn on the River). Admission is free.

The Casper-Natrona County Health Department will be operating two simultaneous flu clinics from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Administration Gymnasium at Casper College and the other at the Industrial Building at the Natrona County Fairgrounds. All adults, and children over the age of 3 are encouraged to go to one of the locations to receive a flu shot. Pneumonia shots will not be available at these clinics. The cost of a flu shot is $15 for an adult and $14 for a child. Medicare will be accepted, however Medicaid will not.

Wyoming Medical Center pharmacy, University of Wyoming pharmacy students and Casper College pharmacy tech students will collect expired and unwanted medications at the Flu Vaccination Clinic held in the Administration Building Gym at Casper College from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Casper Family Aquatic Center invites toddlers and their parents to Toddler Time from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The special swim is for children age 5 and under and their parents - sorry no older siblings allowed. Special swim price is $1.50 per adult, kids swim free. Adults are required to accompany their children in the water.

The Fort Caspar Pony Club will hold an English riding horse show at 9 a.m. The fun show will include classes for all levels of riders including flat classes in leadline, walk/trot and walk, trot canter. Jumping levels will begin with ground rails. The show will be held at the Foxwood Equestrian Center located on the County Line Road off of the Old Glenrock Highway, approximately 10 miles from Casper. All participants must wear a riding helmet and proper riding foot wear. Entries accepted the day of the show. For more information, contact Laurie at 265-6828.

The Casper Music Teachers Association is sponsoring the third annual fall music festival to benefit the Children's Organ Transplant Association at 2 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. The festival, open to all piano students, teachers and community musicians, will feature solos, duets or ensemble numbers.

Funds that are raised will be donated to the Children's Organ Transplant Association in honor of Grace Albright, Gavin Maxwell and Melissa Berg.

The Casper College Concert Band will present a free concert at 3 p.m. in Durham Hall, located in the Aley Fine Arts Center. In addition to the concert band, the Casper College Brass and Flute Ensembles will also perform.

The Natrona County Democratic Party {M3will hold an old-fashioned "support the candidates and get out the vote rally," according to county chairman John Faunce. The public is invited. The rally will be held at 5 p.m. at the IBEW Hall, 691 English Drive. Chili, pies, and nonalcoholic beverages will be served. A wine tasting and auction to benefit the Central Wyoming Hospice program will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Parkway Plaza Hotel. Tickets are $50 at the door and include samples from numerous wine vendors, as well as an extensive hors d'oeuvres buffet. You must be 21 or older to attend.

Vern and Rita Davis perform from 7 to 10 p.m., at the Senior Center, 1831 E. Fourth. Admission is $4 per person, doors open at 6. No alcohol, no smoking, but free coffee and punch provided. Come dance or just listen to good music.
