The Casper City Council and the Natrona County Commission jointly appointed retired geologist Whitney Bradley to the Amoco Reuse Agreement Joint Powers Board earlier this week.

Bradley will take over the at-large seat vacated by Maggi Murdock, who left the board earlier this summer. He will serve on the board until at least Dec. 31, when his term expires.

Originally from Littleton, Colo., Bradley received bachelor's and master's degrees in geology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, he said.

During his career, Bradley worked as a geologist for the Marathon Oil Company, the United States Geological Survey and the Bureau of Land Management, he said. He specialized in minerals, particularly oil, coal and natural gas. He retired in 1988, he said.

Bradley's background in geology, coupled with his interest in civic beautification and his interest in the cleanup and reuse of the former Amoco refinery made him a good candidate to serve on the board, he said.

The aspect of the reuse that most interests Bradley is the civic auditorium project; he is an enthusiastic supporter, he said.

Casper is home to too many performing groups that have no place to call home, he noted. The auditorium, which could also be used for conventions and lectures, would be a valuable asset to Casper, Bradley added.

Bradley will officially join the Joint Powers Board at its meeting Wednesday.
