Discovery Center programs for students resume

Now that students are heading back to school, several of the Discovery Center's regular programs will resume in the coming weeks or are continuing, according to Curator of Education Linda Lyman.

"Art's Cooler, Homeschooler" n which is styled after the center's successful Art's Cool After School n returns Sept. 3 with new subjects and fun art projects for students of all ages. Classes will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. every Wednesday and also from 2 to 3 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month.

"Art's Cool After School," for children ages 8 to 12, resumes Sept. 9. The playful art educational event, which is held from 4 to 4:45 p.m., explores the creative process under the guidance of the Nic's instructors.

And as always, preschoolers ages 3 to 5 (and their parents) are invited to "Preschool Picassos," a weekly program of fun art activities and stories. The program will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Mondays.

The cost to participate in any of the programs is $2 per child, per visit for members or $3 per child, per visit for nonmembers. Advanced signup is appreciated for the "Homeschooler" and "After School" programs.

For more information, call Lyman at (307) 235-5247.

Aquatic center offers fitness classes

Registrations are being accepted at the Casper Family Aquatic Center for water exercise classes, which begin Sept. 8.

Most classes utilize the Lazy River. The movement of the water is a major challenge for balance, coordination, and stability. Resistance provides a challenge to the cardiovascular system as well as the musculoskeletal system.

These low impact water exercise classes are for swimmers and nonswimmers.

Classes are offered three times a day on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays. Others can purchase an Exercise Punch Pass, which allows for drop-in participation if the classes aren't full.

The center also offers Jolly Joints, a recreational exercise program designed to accommodate the abilities of individuals with arthritis and other related diseases. Each person works at his or her own pace and is open to swimmers and nonswimmers. The class is offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

For more information, call (307) 235-8383 or visit www.casperwy.gov.
