Stroll among the displays of early pioneers on the trails, while sampling food from the best celebrity chefs.

Dance in period costume to period music in the elegance of a nearly 100-year-old building.

Support each Casper high school football team, and let youngsters try their hands and feet at basic football skills.

Here is a summary of activities in central Wyoming this weekend:

The Bureau of Land Management will close the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center at 5 p.m. today for the final set-up of the NHTIC Foundation Celebrity Chef Cook Off annual fundraiser.

Chefs or their representatives from these establishments are expected to participate: Flappers Fine Dining, Red Stallion, Paisley Shawl, Best Western Ramkota, Five Star Realty, Gigi's, Goose Egg Inn, Grant Street Grocery, Jazz Spot, Lime Leaf/House of Sushi, P. Hawk Coffee, 64 Grille, River's Edge Cafe, The Market & More, Wonder Bar and the Hilton Garden Inn.

This is the NHTIC Foundation�s sixth annual Celebrity Chef Cook Off fund-raiser. It will run from 6 to 9 p.m. The cost is $75 at the door. There will be multiple chefs offering unique foods along with entertainment, and a silent and live auction. For more information, contact the NHTIC Foundation at 265-8030.

�We will be open for visitors but will not charge admission because of the set-up and preparations of the chefs and others for the event,� noted NHTIC director Michael Abel.

Old-fashioned free family fun will be the experience at the Town of Glenrock's 100th Birthday Centennial Ball from 7 to 11 p.m., in the Historic Hotel Higgins and Kimball Park adjacent to the hotel.

Period costume is encouraged, but not required. Dance music will be provided by Swing Sounds, and adult beverages will be available for purchase inside the hotel.

Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to join Saint Anthony Tri-Parish Catholic School in kicking off the school year in style with the �Moving for our Faith� 5K Fun Run/Walk, 1K Run for Kids Under 10. The run around Three Crowns Golf Course will begin at 8 a.m. with registration starting at 7 a.m., at the Casper White Water Park. Registration is $15. Each runner will receive a T-shirt, and the first 50 people registering will receive a goodie bag. Kelly Walsh football will hold its annual Parent Meeting and Towel Bowl Scrimmage. The football parent meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the KW Stadium, followed by the annual Towel Bowl intra-squad scrimmage from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the KW Stadium. All players on the freshman, sophomore, junior varsity and varsity teams will compete in the scrimmage.

Price of admission is a towel to be used by the KW Athletics Department.

KW Quarterback Club will host a tailgate barbecue following the scrimmage. Football players and KW students with a school ID eat free. Parents and fans can purchase burgers, hot dogs, beans, chips and a drink for a $5 donation.

The NCHS Mustangs will host football clinics for all students in kindergarten through eighth grade. From 9 to 10 a.m., all kindergarten through fourth-graders are invited to a Flag Football Clinic where players will work on passing, catching, and flag grabbing. From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a non-contact Tackle Football Clinic will be held for all fifth- through eighth-graders. All events are free and will be held at Cheney Alumni Field.

Young pro football fans will have the opportunity to exhibit their football skills when the City of Casper Recreation Division hosts an NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition free and open to boys and girls ages 8 to 15. It will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Cheney Alumni Field at Natrona County High School. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. and closes at 9:45 a.m. at the entrance. This event is part of the Youth Football Day with the Natrona County Mustangs Football Team.

Free stroke screenings are available from 8 a.m. to noon at Elkhorn Valley Rehabilitation Hospital, 5715 E. Second St.

Drs. David Wheeler and Ryan Swan will be available to answer questions and folks may participate in a stroke risk assessment, a presentation by a local stroke survivor, door prizes and giveaways.

Staples, 4160 E. Second St., is hosting its annual Teacher Appreciation Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for its educators in Casper. The first 100 teachers will receive an EcoEasy bag of supplies such as notepads and writing tools to assist them with supplies they need for their classrooms.

A community-wide cookout will be held at Soldiers of the Light Church, 949 N. Durbin St. Activities start at 4 p.m., and the free food will be served at 6 p.m. A free-will donation will be taken.

Special musical guests include Debbie Milligan and Kerry Conner. Also playing will be the Soldiers of the Light band. There will be ministry activities for children.

On Sunday, New Life Tabernacle will hold a Mountain Top service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bear Trap Meadow Pavilion. For more information, contact Merry at 258-4700.

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church invites everyone to a Carnival Rally to kick off the Sunday School year. Attend the 9 a.m. worship, then stay for the rally at 10:30 a.m. Sunday school classes begin Aug. 30 for ages 3 years to 12th grade.
